The Book of Tea rediscovered

Discovery from times past…

Simon: I found this book in the attic. The Book of Tea.

Olivia: A significant find?

Simon: Very. One of the first books I bought in Japan. Look, I’d even stamped the date in it. 9 JUN 1973.

Olivia: The date might make it personally meaningful. But what about its literary significance?

Simon: Okakura Kakuzo. Notable Japanese scholar. And artist. And commentator.

Olivia: How did the book affect you?

Simon: Instilled simplicity.

Olivia: But you’ve lived a complicated life.

Simon: So finding the book reminded me to revisit simplicity.

_________

Voice-over

Tea. The simplicity of making it. Like go. Ironically, it leads to recognition of complexities.
