On an everyday Burma street.
“This street, I walk it every day. Past unpainted doors
and over the broken pavement. To the market. For just a handful of kyat a day. The
average person just gets by, somehow or other. The average person can live to a bit past 60. The average
person can read and write a bit. Life could be better, I’m sure. I’ve seen
scenes on TV. There are other places in the world. But where would I go? How
would I get there? So I’m just getting by day by day. But I don’t want to carry
baskets forever.”
