Pumpkin at Winter Solstice

Dinner discussion…

Yumiko: Pumpkin. That’s what you need to eat today. It’s the shortest day.

Umeko: People say that or you say that?

Yumiko: Oh, it is well known that eating pumpkin helps stop you catching cold. Who knows, it may help ward off Omicron.

Umeko: I’ve heard of putting yuzu in the bath for that.

Yumiko: Oh, pumpkin too.

_______

Voice-over

Japanese people say taking a hot bath with yuzu, and eating pumpkins will ward off flu bugs. A solstice superstition? Well, people say so and then it becomes widely known.
