Coffee over a gingham tablecloth…
Preparing for the daily deliveries |
Gezina: In milkmaid gear?
Enzo: Sort of. Meiji uniform, really. Anyway, I opened the gate and she offered me a bag. “Free sample. I deliver every day,” she said. She was persuasive so I accepted the gift.
Gezina: Milk bottles?
Enzo: Real glass. They clinked when I put them in the fridge.
Gezina: Did she sign you up for a daily delivery?
Enzo: She'll drop by in a couple of days to pick up the bottles.
Gezina: Aha. That’s when she’ll catch you. You’re in a delivery chain now.

Voice-over
The lockdowns and states of emergencies are changing ordinary life. Milk deliveries seemed a thing of the past, together with thefts of money left out for the morning milk. Meiji offer daily deliveries of milk, yoghurt, fresh eggs. This could be the return of a pleasant part of the past.
