Aladdin: Animation vs live-action blue genies

See any movies on the flight?
.
Jonah: Aladdin.
.
William: I heard it’s only so-so.
.
Jonah: Yeah, Disney. Yeah, feel good. Yeah, happy ending. Yeah, magic carpet as deus ex machina. Should make you nauseous, right?
.
Disney's Aladdin:
Which is the authentic genie?
William: Heard Robin Williams was better as the genie in the original.
.
Jonah: Will Smith was pretty hilarious as the genie.
.
William: You know what I think of Will Smith.
.
Jonah: Yeah. Like a rapper cannot hold a candle to Denzel Washington.
.
William: OK. I guess Denzel could NOT have done a genie.
________
Voice-over
Aladdin, the live-action remake of a classic animation. Reviews mixed. Particularly about the genie. The genie in both the animation and live-action versions is a supporting role that eclipses the luminosity of the main characters. Will Smith’s genie doesn't depart too far from Robin Williams’ genie which was an almost impossibly hard act to follow. It wouldn't have been wise to make the remake genie too different. But there are differences.  Robin Williams apparently ad-libbed the majority of his genie’s lines whereas Will Smith used more of a hip-hop beat to underlie his lines. Robin Williams is not as apparent in the animation creation as Will Smith in his smoky blue CGI garb. Williams lines contain in-jokes and meta-textual references to other media entities like Nicholson and Schwarzeneggar. Robin Williams was not into chasing Jasmine’s handmaiden but Will Smith’s pursuit of Dalia pads out the running time and adds an opening and closing.
