Reopening the war memorial…
James: Great to see you here. Any
thoughts on the changes?1957
Jill: New look is impressive. Flipping the war memorial burgundy wall and plaques – it's like a fresh take on the old design.
James: it. I was excited to be consulted by your uncle David on the redesign a few years ago. His original 1957 design had a timeless quality, and we wanted to recreate the wall. In the end, reversing it and making it a feature of the seaward side of the building seemed the best solution.
Jill: Well, a great job. He would have appreciated the way you've kept the essence with the the eternal flame flickering out of the pond – it's quite striking.2023
James: And this covered way. It's to offer visitors a space to pause and reflect, no matter the
weather. David believed in creating spaces that engage people emotionally, and I think this redesign does that.
Jill: I can sense that. Heritage and modernity, those were his twin approaches.

Voice-over
Elements of a war memorial: names of the fallen, a flame that never dies, a water feature. A place to pause and reflect.
