Are invasions always bad?

A good side of cultural exchange…
Gregoire: Two thousand years ago this country was inhabited by Celts. And then the Romans started coming from about 50 BC.

Roman Theatre in Kent
Gregoire: The Romans brought laws, they brought infrastructure.

Oscar: Infra – what?

Gregoire: They brought roads, they put up buildings, they organized society. Then in 1066 the Normans invaded England.

Oscar: And was that a bad thing?

Gregoire: They brought French culture, taught the people how to cook.

Oscar: So invasions are a good thing?

Gregoire: Can be, Oscar. Can be.

The book 1066 and All That, which is about “103 Good Things, 5 Bad Kings and 2 Genuine Dates”, claims these two dates were crucial to British history and helped develop it from a culture to a civilization.
