The Plant Messiah: A thriller

Books downbeat and upbeat…
.
Natalia: There are lots of detective books, mystery books, suspense thrillers.
.
Katerina: Yeah, I’m reading two at the moment. But they’re somewhat noir, a bit on the dark side. You know, deaths in the dark of night, detectives who are stressed and shout and eat unhealthily.
.
Natalia: Dealing with life’s problems by chasing them full tilt? I prefer writers like McCall Smith. He writes detective stories: The Number One Ladies Detective Agency series. Dignified characters waltzing around problems, being witty and philosophical about them.
.
Katerina: You can’t escape the importance of suspense in a book.
.
Aquatic horticultural suspense
Natalia: It can be done even with an elevated subject. Read a book recently about a hunt for a rare water lily. Hero was a botanist. It went into his childhood in Spain. Got a job at Kew. The hunt took him around the world. Suspenseful as an action thriller.
.
Katerina: I see some good in valuing plants above human mischief and misdemeanors I guess.

Voice-over
The Plant Messiah. Carlos Magdalena. As exciting as a spy novel. Learn some science. True, too.
